Both laminate and vinyl give you a wood-look finish at a fraction of solid wood's cost, but they suit different rooms for one main reason: water.
Vinyl and LVT (luxury vinyl tile) are fully waterproof, which makes them the obvious choice for kitchens, bathrooms and utility rooms. They're also warmer underfoot than tile and compatible with underfloor heating.
For living rooms, bedrooms and hallways — anywhere water isn't a daily factor — laminate tends to have a slightly more authentic wood grain feel underfoot and is often the more budget-friendly option at the same quality tier.
If the room has a sink, shower, or is likely to see spills regularly, we point customers towards vinyl or LVT. Everywhere else, laminate usually does the job well and costs a little less. Both are quoted from £17/m² on our jobs. See our flooring services or send us a photo for a quote specific to your room.
